In Beverly Hills, rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures. As the center of your face and the most three-dimensional feature, the nose has a significant impact on your overall appearance and profile. Even subtle changes to the nose can create a more symmetrical and visually balanced appearance. Dr. Ourian has undergone extensive training with some of the leaders in plastic surgery and offers the best rhinoplasty Los Angeles patients can obtain.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Who is a Good Candidate for Beverly Hills Rhinoplasty?

Most patients who are generally healthy but feel self-conscious of the appearance of their nose or have issues breathing due to problems such as a deviated septum will make good candidates for rhinoplasty. You may choose to undergo rhinoplasty to alter your nose in one or more of the following ways:

  • Creating a smaller or larger nose
  • Reshaping the nasal tip
  • Narrowing the nostrils
  • Straightening the nasal bridge
  • Changing the angle or projection of the nose
  • Correcting a deviated septum

How is a Beverly Hills Rhinoplasty Performed?

Our Los Angeles nose job is performed under general anesthesia using one of two methods: closed or open rhinoplasty. During a rhinoplasty, the soft tissues are reshaped, and the cartilage or bones of the nose may be added to, which is usually achieved using donor tissue from the ears or another area of the nose. The rhinoplasty procedure typically takes between three to five hours to complete.

Open Rhinoplasty

An open rhinoplasty is typically chosen when the focus is altering the nasal tip and middle of the nose. In an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made across the septum between the nostrils.

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty is completed by making incisions inside the nose, through which the tissue can be reshaped. Dr. Ourian is more likely to choose this type of procedure for patients who wish to reshape the bridge of the nose.

Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty

Instead of undergoing surgery, some patients choose a liquid rhinoplasty. This is a temporary and subtle alteration to the shape of the nose using dermal fillers or other injectables. A liquid rhinoplasty is not suitable for some changes that you wish to make to the shape of your nose and can’t be used to make the nose smaller. Dr. Ourian will advise whether this is a suitable choice for you.

Which Procedures Can Be Paired with Rhinoplasty?

Making changes to one facial feature effects the overall balance of your entire face. For this reason, some patients choose to pair other facial procedures with their rhinoplasty to complement their results.

You may wish to alter the lips along with your nose. This can be achieved with lip fillers, which is a surgical procedure to increase the size of the lips or change their shape. Alternatively, a lip lift can be paired with a rhinoplasty, which raises the position of the lips to be closer to the nose and make the top lip appear slightly larger.

You may also choose to alter or repair the ears at the same time as your rhinoplasty. Dr. Ourian offers ear pinning, or otoplasty, to change the projection of the ears or make them appear smaller. Earlobe repair is an increasingly popular procedure as well, which can be chosen to correct torn or stretched earlobes. As a relatively simple surgery, some patients decide to pair earlobe repair with their rhinoplasty so that they can recover from each procedure at the same time.

Lastly, some patients may decide to have a chin implant placed at the time of a rhinoplasty. Some patients have a protruding nose, with a small chin, which makes the nose appear larger. A chin implant can augment the size of the chin for a more harmonious balance of the entire face.

What is Rhinoplasty Recovery Like?

Dr. Ourian’s signature Beverly Hills nose job is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you may return home the same day that you have the procedure. However, you need to have a trusted caretaker, such as a friend or family member, who can drive you home and assist you through the early stages of recovery. Swelling is expected especially in the first month or so after the procedure, with residual minor swelling lasting for up to one year after surgery. It is also relatively common to experience bruising around the nose and eyes, which should only last for a few weeks after the surgery. Ice packs or cold compresses can be used to help relieve swelling, discoloration, and discomfort. In addition, you will be prescribed medication to alleviate any discomfort during the initial healing process. Finally, you will likely need to wear a splint in the for the first week after surgery to aid in proper healing.

FAQS:

Frequently asked questions

How long does swelling last after a rhinoplasty?
After a rhinoplasty, the majority of swelling should dissipate at about four to eight weeks. Some residual swelling can last for up to a year, but this is typically not noticeable or uncomfortable.
Does insurance cover rhinoplasty?
Whether or not your insurance will cover rhinoplasty depends on the purpose of the surgery. Some patients choose to undergo rhinoplasty to correct a breathing problem caused by issues such as a deviated septum. In these cases, rhinoplasty may be covered by health insurance. If you are choosing rhinoplasty for strictly cosmetic purposes, health insurance will not likely cover the procedure.
How long do I need to wear a splint after rhinoplasty?
Most Beverly Hills rhinoplasty patients will wear a splint for about a week (5-7 days) after their procedure. The purpose of the splint is to ensure that the nose is held in its new shape during the earliest stages of healing. Dr. Ourian will give you detailed directions regarding caring for your nose throughout the healing process.
